My name is Jason Bourne…or is it?
Set in the wintered streets of Berlin, Unknown (2011) is a one hour 53 minutes thriller starring Liam Neeson. However, if movie-goers are hoping for the same edge-of-your-seat, adrenaline-pumping ride that was Neeson’s other thriller- Taken(2009)- many are in for some major disappointment.
Unknown initially plays out like a massive shadowy conspiracy, which pitted the wits of a mere doctor against mysterious agents. Midway through however, one will begin to notice distinct similarities with the movies of the Bourne series.
Cold foreign country.
Random good-willed female passer-by.
Super-assasin who forgets who he is, but recovers in time to save the day.
These are just some of the glaring resemblances.
In my opinion, only the final fight was interesting and dare I say it, cool. Neeson’s acting is great as usual while co-star January Jones somehow just reminds me of a somewhat plastic character where no real emotions play on her face.
When all is said and done, there is really little originality in this movie, and while I love Liam Neeson and his acting, this movie should remain unknown.
